Why Choose Brussels for Your Accommodation During the Olympic Games? Plus: 5 Fascinating Facts About Olympics 2024

The first post-pandemic Summer Olympics will be held from July 26th to August 11th. These games include 329 competitions in 32 venues, including attractive locations in Paris, throughout France, and Tahiti, the largest island in French Polynesia.

The opening of the Olympic Games is expected to be unusual this time. It will be outside the stadium, and the parade of athletes will cruise on boats down the Seine.

The number of visitors will certainly be enormous, but if you want to be part of this sports spectacle and avoid the crowds, you can stay somewhere other than Paris or its surroundings. Just an hour and 20 minutes by train from Paris, comfortable and affordable accommodation awaits you in Brussels. But first, let's reveal some interesting facts about this year's Summer Olympics.

The Olympic Medals will contain iron that was once part of the Eiffel Tower

This year's Olympics will be historic in many ways. The medals awarded to the winners will include iron pieces once part of the Eiffel Tower built for the exhibition in 1889. These iron pieces were once part of the towers that were replaced during renovations.

A few grams of iron will be combined with gold, silver, and bronze to create medals for the 2024 Summer Olympics winners.

Fascinating numbers

About 10,500 athletes will compete at the Olympics, and 45,000 volunteers will help. This magnificent sports event will be followed by over 20,000 accredited journalists and around 8,000 non-accredited journalists worldwide. The competitions will be held at 35 venues, and about 350,000 hours of TV broadcast will be shown, followed by billions of television viewers worldwide.

In total, over 15 million visitors are expected, and 206 nations will be present. During the 19 days of the competition, around 600,000 meals will be served daily in the Olympic Village.

The Paris Metro has prepared a large number of translation devices

Visitors from different parts of the world will be present at this sports competition, so the Paris Metro is equipped with around 3,000 translation devices. Metro workers will be equipped with devices that can translate from French to 16 world languages with the text that appears on the screen and read out loud for visitors.

A new sports category – breakdance

Breakdancing has officially been added to the Olympics, much to the delight of fans of this dance style. This is also the only sport to debut at the 2024 Olympic Games.

The mascot of the Olympics will be a hat

The mascots at the previous Olympic Games were pandas, tigers, and bears, and this time, the mascot will be the traditional hat once worn by the French revolutionaries. This is unsurprising because Paris is one of the world's fashion capitals.
